MILK COMPONENTS LABORATORY
The milk components lab performs analysis on bulk tank and cow milk samples to determine somatic cell counts, fat, protein, lactose, and solids-non-fat. The lab is equipped to process herds and special bulk tank submissions. Most component results are reported within 48 hours of sample procurement. Prompt turn-around time on results permits many producers the convenience of shipping samples to our one-stop dairy lab.
FIELD AND DATA SERVICES
Field and data services are offered to dairies across the southwest. Two major features of our field service programs include sample procurement by certified technicians and data collection. Field services include determining milk weights and collecting samples for components analysis. Data collected from field services can be transferred directly to the producer, data processing center, and/or veterinarian.
The micro lab specializes in processing individual cow cultures for the major mastitis pathogens: Staph. aureus, Strep. ag., and Mycoplasma spp.
We examine water, teat dip, dairy towels, and swab samples for bacteria. Bulk tank culture services are also available. Services include: Standard Plate Count, Lab Pasteurization Count, Coliform Count, Preliminary Incubation Count, broth enhanced test for the presence of Mycoplasma spp., broth enhanced test for the presence of Salmonella spp., ropy milk test, and sedimentation test.
We also process milk and serum samples for Johne’s disease via ELISA. The lab is accredited with the USDA Chief Diagnostic Bacteriology Lab.
WE NOW HAVE BUTTER FAT, PROTEIN, SOMATIC CELL COUNT, AND BACTERIA ANALYSIS ON THE SAME SAMPLE IN THE SAME LAB!
